The Art of Jim Greer

Jim Greer...My Story

Picture
G’day,

My name is James Greer or mainly known as ‘Jim’ or ‘Drover’.

I contracted Lyme Disease early in 2012, which is now considered chronic. I suffered stroke like symptoms and was left with a ‘Bells Palsy’ type effect as a result. I was informed while at the hospital that I should take on a new hobby that didn’t use so much energy. I was previously working, non stop, for a tour company in Central Australia that also built structers in Aboriginal communities. The decision I made was to take up painting.

I used to draw cartoons as a child and thought I might be able to bring out some of my old creativeness and put it to good use. As well as the drawings as a child, I have also done an extensive amount of wildlife and landscape photography, which also helps when trying to paint something. It can inspire ideas and bring pictures to life.

In the past I was able to travel, and I loved that freedom.  Now with my painting I can travel (with my mind) and still be near medical help. The physical strength I have regained is unbelievable, I think because I have freed my mind. I have also let my body fight the disease where it can, without being strenuous. Having to use my arm for painting, the Bells Palsy effects have slowly worn off, a day at a time and a little more each day. I still get flash backs of pain, caused by the disease, however they don’t hang around as much these days.

I’d recommend photography or painting to anyone that suffers from Lyme as I think it’s a good way to express yourself and your moods and thoughts. If you would like to find out more about my Lyme and the way I discovered it you can by visiting my website, under the section, ‘Drovers Lyme’. If anyone would like to purchase paintings or prints, it can be done so via email.

Part proceeds will go toward my new venture, which is collecting tick’s from the Australian Bushland to find proof it exists in the country, so that people have to accept it is here. Any help I can get is great and feel free to donate even if you don’t want a painting or print. Thanks for reading my story and thanks to Inanna House for your support.
